Support Ultimate - Come Watch the Texas Live Logic Shootout!

May 25th, 2007

Austin ultimate players,

Come out and support local ultimate at the Live Logic Texas Shootout on June
1-3. The tournament will be going on all weekend at the UT IM fields, but
the festivities get started on Friday night, June 1 with two showcase games
at House Park Stadium. The first game will be a high school all star game
at 6:30 PM. Come dream about how good you would have been if you had played
ultimate in high school. After the high school game, the battle of Texas is
on between Austin’s own Doublewide and Grit from Dallas. For more
information about Friday’s showcase, check out the attached flyer. For more
information about the tournament, check out the website
(http://www.livelogic.net/txshootout/). If you have friends or coworkers who might be
interested, invite them to come along. I hope to see you there!

Summer League Registration is UP!

May 8th, 2007

Hello Austin Ultimate!

Registration for the 2007 Austin Ultimate Summer League is now open! Please
visit http://www.austinultimate.org/sl2007/signup/ to register.

As I first announced, the format for weekly play will be the same as last
year, with one set of teams playing on Monday/Wednesday evenings and the
other on Tuesday/Thursday evenings at the beautiful UT Intramural Fields at
51st and Guadalupe. There will be two games each night beginning at 6:30
and ending at 10:00. Weekly play will begin on Monday, June 4 and end on
Thursday, June 28. There will be a tournament all day on Saturday, June 30
and a party that night. The registration fee will be $25 for the entire
league. As always, everyone will get a sweet new disc. All proceeds
benefit the UT Men and Women ultimate teams.

The registration fee is payable through PayPal. Everyone must pay with
PayPal. I know some people have an unwarranted aversion to PayPal, but
believe me it is the fastest, easiest, safest way to pay. You don’t even
need an account or anything – just pay with your credit card.

Also, when registering you may request to be on the same team as ONE other
friend. Enter this person’s name at the bottom of the signup page. This
will only work if your friend also requests to be on your team and enters
your name at the bottom of their signup page. Don’t try to get fancy by
doing something like person A requests person B who requests person C who
requests person A. This will only leave you sad and lonely on a team
without your friends. Please, only ONE friend request.

If you would like to be a team captain and feel you are qualified, please
check the box at the bottom of the signup page to volunteer. Please know
that volunteering does not automatically mean you will be a captain, as
captain appointments will depend on how many people volunteer.

Registration will be open for 2 weeks, but sign up today! Spread the word
and tell all your friends and family about Summer League.

Coed Indoor Tourney - 3/4/07 in Houston

February 2nd, 2007

Sun 3/4/07 - Indoor Coed Tourney 8:30a - 6pm

Hello All!!
You’ve heard about the Houston Ultimate weekend on the horizon, now
here are the details:

I would like to formally share the details about the 2nd Houston COED
Indoor Open, a one day indoor tournament in Houston on Sunday, March
4! This tournament is paired with the annual HFL (Huckin for Laura)
charity COED hat tourney (outdoor) on Saturday, March 3, 2007.

Indoor Coed Tourney details:

Date: Sun, Mar 4

Time: coed 11am-8pm (quarters begin around 5.30pm), div2 8am-11am
(finals around noon)

Cost: $150 per team if paid by February 14

Bids: 14 coed teams

Format: Pool play to elimination quarters

Gender: Offense decides 1 woman or 2 women, defense matches

Ideal team makeup: 6 guys, 3 women… 10 players max

Sign-up: Please reply to houstonindoor (at) yahoo (dot) com to
submit a bid or get more information.

More details about the Indoor Tourney:
The indoor tourney will be held at Kicks Indoor on a synthetic grass
field similar to surfaces found in the NFL. Indoor is 5-on-5 with
timed games, stalling 8 count, lots of fast action and crafty
throws… tons of fun.

Location and Tourney Amenities:
The facility has a single field where all tourney games will take
place. Pool play games will be clustered together and there will be
some time between sets of games but don’t worry… there is good stuff
at Kicks to keep you occupied. Kicks’ unique layout also give the
ability for - heckling the current players from the observation deck
while having a brewski, watching college basketball games on TVs, or
playing in the air hockey side tourney. Other activities are also
under review - some outdoor double disc and goaltimate mini tourneys
(for free).

Tourney Party:
Sat. night there will be entertainment for all tourney participants
and friends. Live DJ, dancing, cash bar, fun for all. Location and
details tba.

Rules in Brief:
The indoor games are timed, lasting 14 or 19 minutes and will end on a
buzzer, do not complete the last point. No half, 1 quick timeout per
team per game. The next game starts 1 minute later so we will have a
new game starting every 15/20 minutes. Game play is 5-on-5, normal
subbing, recommended team size be 10 players to get max playing time.
Stall count is 8, no roller pulls; brick is midfield, 2 point line.
The games should move quickly, given the timed format, pulling team
should pull as soon as receiving team has raised their hand. The
following are all out of bounds:

- All walls, nets, ceiling, soccer goal line and space inside soccer goal

- dashed sideline as well as space between dashed sideline and wall,
except along endzone curve

- Player touching wall when making a catch

Schedule:
We’ll start early enough (~8:30a) for you to take off at a decent time
on Sunday (~3-6pm depending on finish). Early team sign ups might
guarantee you a later start time.

FAQ

q: where is the facility located?
a: Kicks Indoor is inside the loop in Houston at Shepherd and Memorial
Drives, www.kicksindoor.com

q: what kind of shoes should I wear?
a: running shoes or turf shoes with small (<3/8") cleats nubs.

q: why so expensive for short games?
a: the facility is pretty sweet (but not cheap). Players in past
indoor tourneys said they were a lot more tired than they thought they
would be. It’s taxing to play 15/20 minutes all out but is a cool
format because it leaves plenty of social time to hang with good
friends and make new ones.

Please let me know if you are interested.

Goaltimate Tournament in Atlanta, GA

November 28th, 2006

From Drew Levine:

“I am putting together a competitive mens goalty tournament here in Atlanta the weekend of March 10-11 (the weekend of college terminus). I am hoping to attract at least 8 teams of 7-8 men from across the south and elsewhere.

There will be an entrance fee to pay for fields, probably $150-250. There will be prize money, hopefully over $1000 if sponsors come through, so get excited. Please pass this on to any other team, person, organization that might be interested.”

Anyone Need Guys for Celebracion?

November 3rd, 2006

There are 4 very nice guys who are trying to get more into ultimate and form a team at Mary-Hardin Baylor. They have expressed alot of interest in playing as much as possible, but don’t have enough people to form a team for Celebracion. This is a call to the Austin Ultimate community. Help college ultimate out and give Daniel Nelson an email (njdevils26n -at- yahoo.com). Thanks and I can’t wait to see everyone out there!
