What’s Happening Around Town and Beyond

April 11th, 2008
Whether you like your Ultimate weekdays or weekends, outdoors or indoors, Austin has you covered.  Here’s a snip-it of some of what’s going on in Austin Ultimate these days.

Austin’s first Indoor Tournament is coming up in just 1 1/2 weeks.  If you’ve never played indoor Ultimate before, you should give it a shot!!!  It’s coed, fast-paced, high-intensity and there’s no wind so all your throws will go exactly where you want them to go.  The tournament is Sunday, April 20th in a brand new facility located in cool South Austin.  There is room for 2 - 4 more teams.  You just need 5 players to make a team so get with it, slackers.  Grab your crew and jump on board.   For more information, visit http://www.austinultimate.org/indoorultimatecultivation/

Patterson Pick-up has restarted for 2008.  The extra day-light we get after daylight savings goes on means extra Ultimate for everyone.  Where?  Here: http://snurl.com/24218  When:  Tuesdays and Thursdays starting around 6:30 PM.  Bring a light and dark shirt, some water and invite that co-worker that’s been talking about getting into shape.  He’ll hate you for it the next day, but thank you once the soreness fades.

Spring League is half-way through its season.  Games are Saturdays at 10:30 and 12:00.  Even if you’re not signed-up you can still take advantage of the pay-to-play option.  It’s just $5 each week with the proceeds benefiting UT Women’s Ultimate.  Do it!  http://www.austinultimate.org/springleague/

Zilker Park Ultimate Sunday Evenings is always a good choice for pick-up.  The start-time is 5:30 PM between the sand volleyball courts and rock island.  The level varies from newbie to nary-a-turnover.  Come try it out!

Play Ultimate in Mexico!  There are three outstanding tournaments in Mexico each year- Acapulco in January, Mexico City at the end of the year, and the one that’s coming up the last weekend in May.  The tournament is called “Fever in the Desert” and it takes place in San Luís Potosí (SLP) located right smack dab in the corazon de México.  Every year for the past 6 years, Austin Texas has represented by taking a team down there called “Los Ilegales” (The Illegals).  It’s a great time and affordable to everyone.  Players of all skill-levels are welcome, too.  Put it on your radar today and look for more info about it coming soon.

Chewbacca Defense Invititation

March 24th, 2008

Ultimaters,
Chewbacca Defense, Texas’ premier coed team, would like to invite you to join us Sunday, March 30th for some high level coed pickup to be followed by a brief informational meeting regarding Chewy in 2008.  The captains have been set for the season and we are looking to build off last year’s momentum of making it to Nationals in just our second year of existence. We’d love to have you out for some quality and fun ultimate at 11 AM at Whitaker Fields (51st and Guadalupe) .  After that (approximately 12:30), we’ll have a brief meeting and Q&A session with the captains and then head to Phil’s Icehouse on Burnet from some quality burgers and fries.  We hope you’ll come join and learn about our expectations and plan for the upcoming club season.  The returning core is large and we are all excited for another fun and competitive season.  Please come out and play and learn about Austin’s up and coming Coed team. Feel free to pass this along to anyone you think might be interested as well.

Also, if you can’t make, but are looking to get info on the team, please email me (Matty) and I’ll be sure to include you on any info emails we send out.
Thanks,
Don, Vanessa and Matty
